Timber Treatment

Pressure Treated Timber

All of our timber products undergo pressure treatment using Tanalith-E wood preservative in our tanalising plant. This treatment significantly improves the durability, lifespan, and weather resistance of timber that will be used outdoors.
By forcing preservative deep into the wood, this process helps protect the timber from rot, fungal decay, insect attack, and moisture damage, ensuring our gates, fencing, and posts perform reliably for many years in exposed outdoor conditions.

What is Tanalising?

Tanalising is an industrial pressure treatment process used to impregnate timber with a wood preservative known as Tanalith-E. Unlike surface coatings or paints that sit on the outside of the timber, this preservative is forced deep into the cellular structure of the wood, providing long-lasting protection throughout the material.

The process takes place in a large sealed treatment cylinder, where controlled vacuum and pressure cycles allow the preservative to penetrate the timber thoroughly. Once the treatment is complete, the preservative becomes absorbed within the wood fibres, and it will continue protecting the timber throughout its service life.

The Pressure Treatment Process:

The tanalising process follows several carefully controlled stages to ensure the preservative is fully absorbed and evenly distributed throughout the timber.

1. Initial Vacuum Stage
2. Flooding with Tanalith-E Preservative
3. High Pressure Impregnation
4. Final Vacuum and Draining

What is Tanalith-E?

Tanalith-E is a modern water-based wood preservative widely used throughout the timber industry. It contains carefully balanced compounds designed to protect wood from biological threats while remaining safe for outdoor use. Once fixed inside the timber, the treatment becomes part of the wood itself, offering long-term protection even in harsh outdoor environments.

Benefits of Pressure Treated Timber:

Extended Lifespan

Pressure treated timber can last many years longer than untreated wood when exposed to the elements. The preservative helps prevent decay that would otherwise shorten the life of outdoor timber products.

Protection from Rot and Decay

Outdoor timber is constantly exposed to moisture, which creates ideal conditions for fungal growth. The Tanalith-E treatment prevents fungi from breaking down the wood fibres, significantly reducing the risk of rot.

Resistance to Insect Attack

Certain insects can damage untreated timber by burrowing into the wood. The preservative treatment discourages insect infestation and protects the timber structure.

Deep Internal Protection

Because the preservative is pressure-forced into the timber, protection exists throughout the wood, not just on the surface. This ensures long-lasting durability even if the timber is cut or slightly damaged during installation.
